Toronto - A Taste of The Danforth Weekend August 10-11,2013

While during my visit to Toronto I was blessed with the good luck of the Annual "Taste Of The Danforth" weekend Greek Food Festival, on the Danforth. There was an array of live entertainment, and Greek food (of course) tasting at practically every block. The street was closed to all traffic for this marvelous event. I actually saw a Spock look-a-like dressed just like the character in Star Trek, equipped with his pointy ears and phaser weapon-posing for and with persons who were interested. I noticed he was wearing a "tips" bottle on his belt. Everyone needs to pay their bills, right ? I started getting hungry by around the supper hour on this cloudy Sunday evening and debated which restaurant I should go to. My actor friend from Toronto, Mr. John Wildman (yes, he is a wild man !), was so kind as to recommend me a very good restaurant meditteranean cuisine called "Lolita's Lust". 513 Danforth avenue, just east of Logan street. The food and the service was utterly amazing, I must say. I had the lamb shank dish. It was braised in its juices and sprinkled with goat cheese accompanied with some rapini greens. It was one of the best lamb I ever ever had-really. My friend had the linguine pasta with seafood. It was also very good. The scallops were big and juicy, and fresh ! We had a fried dumpling stuffed with lobster meat as an appetizer. Wow, that was good too. The peanut sauce which came with the dumpling was smooth and tasty. We had each a glass of white wine with our meal, a Pinot Grigio, recommended by our wonderful server. Excellent ! I was surprised a little by how affordable the whole meal was. I've been to many upscale restos that were nothing close to the quality and value that I received at Lolita's Lust restaurant. You must try this place ! Website: www.lolitaslust.ca

Fred D'Angelo at Mississauga ItalFest Saturday August 10,2013

Hi everyone ! I just returned back to my hometown Montreal from exciting Mississauga & downtown Toronto. On Saturday August 10 I attended the first ever Mississauga Italian Festival. It was held at the newly constructed and modern "Celebration Square" of the Mississauga Civic Centre. The fun began in the afternoon with live singers performing on stage beginning at 6 p.m. There were lots of Italian food kiosques everywhere. The headliner of the evening was Fred D'angelo, a native of France but with strong Italian roots. Fred D'Angelo sings in 4 different languages. French, Italian, English, and Spanish. However, on this particular evening his strong Italian heritage was front and centre and he performed exquisitely ! Here are a couple of videos of his performance . Enjoy !

Men without Hats Concert in Montreal Nov.10,2012

The popular '80 synth-pop band "Men Without Hats" are currently on tour to promote their most recent album "Love In The Age of War". Ivan Doroschuk, lead singer and songwriter of the band, has not lost his fervor and enthusiasm to write poppy electro beats sticking to his his roots that made him and Men Without Hats what they are today.Although his original band members are no longer playing with Ivan; hello brother Stefan and Colin, and other keyboard members thru the years such as Lenny Pinkas,Alan McCarthy (R.I.P.) and Jean-Marc Pisapia to name but a few, Ivan was still able to put together a solid competent group of musicians to back him up. As evidenced in his recent live performances Men Without Hats can still rev up the audiences with classics such as "Safety Dance",and "Pop Goes The World" in which Ivan described in Montreal recently as being a song first written about the drug mesculin and then over the years taking on different meanings such as world conflict. The new album "Love in the Age of War" released in June 2012 does have some very strong tracks. "Head Above Water", "Everybody Knows","The Girl With The Silicon Eyes",and "This War". The song "This War" is the opening song of the band's live concert. If you don't like to bop or dance at a concert then Men Without Hats is not the show you'd want to go see. But if you like to dance and move around, and you have a liking to groovy ambient-like electro pop music, then Ivan and his troops have exactly what the doctor has ordered.  I consider myself an original fan of their sound and music and a Men Without Hats "purist". Ivan can still maintain the intensity and the skillful music making that he is capable of. There was experimentation in electronics, even some rock 'n roll in the band's repertoire. It was to say the least, exhilarating. But that was then, and Love in the Age of War is today. The band's recent live performances summarizes everything you need to know about the band since 1979. It's a lot of fun, and you will undoubtedly dance to the music. With a smile ! For all the latest news and tour dates of Men Without Hats visit their website at :
